Federal Judge Dismisses Lawsuit Against FBI And State Department in Shanquella Robinson Case

A federal judge has dismissed the lawsuit filed by the family of Shanquella Robinson—the 25-year-old Charlotte, NC woman who tragically died during a group trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, in October 2022—against the FBI and the State Department, siding with the government in the high-profile civil suit.

On Friday, in a new court filing, Judge Max Cogburn agreed with all five of the government’s arguments to dismiss the suit against the FBI and the State Department, after the departments argued that the United States was not the proper venue for the case—Mexico was—since that’s where the incident occurred.

However, the judge has NOT YET ruled on whether to dismiss the family’s wrongful death and negligence claims against the “Cabo 6”—the group of so-called friends who traveled with Shanquella and were seen on video attacking her.
