A Charlotte woman, 40-year-old Laree Briddell, has been sentenced to 44-65 months in prison after a horrific incident in which she slashed her 13-year-old son’s face with scissors. The attack took place on April 15, 2020, at a relative’s house in Mecklenburg County.

The Incident: Argument Escalates to Violence

According to court documents, Briddell became involved in an argument with her son during their visit to a relative’s home. During the altercation, Briddell grabbed a pair of scissors and slashed her son’s face. The wound inflicted on the young boy was complex and severe, requiring plastic surgery to repair the damage.

Charges and Conviction

Following the attack, Briddell was arrested and charged with intentional child abuse resulting in serious injury and assault with a deadly weapon. On Monday, December 9, a jury found Briddell guilty of assault with a deadly weapon causing serious injury to her son.

Judge Sentences Briddell to 44-65 Months in Prison

On December 10, 2024, Mecklenburg Superior Court Judge David H. Strickland sentenced Briddell to 44-65 months in prison for her actions. The sentence comes after a lengthy legal process that saw Briddell facing serious charges for the violent assault against her own child.
