A North Carolina family is desperately searching for answers after 74-year-old Larry Burton vanished from a Greensboro assisted living home.

The North Carolina Beat spoke with Latonya Swift, Burton’s daughter, who says her father has been missing since July 3, 2025.

Larry Burton, a 74-year-old North Carolina man with medical needs, disappeared from a Greensboro assisted living home.

Swift told The North Carolina Beat that her father had been hospitalized at Moses Cone in June. Before his discharge, the hospital informed the family that Burton needed rehab, but insurance wouldn’t approve it because “he could walk more than 450 ft.”

She said her father had a catheter and was considered combative. According to Swift, the hospital informed them of the option to either pay $11,000 or they could send Mr. Burton to another facility where they worked with clients with self-pay.

“THAT END UP BEING THE END RESULT WHICH WAS THE L&L FAMILY CARE HOME,” SWIFT SAID. “SO, THEY DISCHARGED MY FATHER FROM L & L AND THEY (L & L) PICKED HIM UP.”

Swift said the hospital did not want the family to pick up Mr. Burton because they believed it would “set him back.” She said her father was transported to L & L Family Care Home on June 24, 2025.

Nine days later, on July 3, around 7:18 a.m., Swift said she received a phone call from a woman identifying herself as the owner of L & L Family Care Home, Hazel Forman. Swift said Forman told her that staff last saw Mr. Burton sleeping around 5 a.m., but when they went to wake him up for breakfast, he was gone.

At the time, Swift, who lives in Florida nearly 11 hours away, rushed to North Carolina. She said two of her children were in North Carolina with her father, but hospital staff recommended Burton not be released home due to medical concerns.

“THEY SAID MY DADDY COULDN’T GO HOME BECAUSE HE NEEDED MEDICAL ATTENTION BECAUSE HE’S COMBATIVE,” SWIFT TOLD THE NORTH CAROLINA BEAT. “THEY DID NOT RECOMMEND HIM GOING HOME AND THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO CALL ADULT PROTECTIVE SERVICES IF THEY DISCHARGED HIM TO ANYWHERE OUTSIDE OF A MEDICAL FACILTY.”

Swift said her father would not be missing if he had been discharged to family.

“MY DADDY WOULD’VE NEVER BEEN FUCKING MISSING IF THEY HAD’VE DISCHARGED HIM HOME BECAUSE WE’VE BEEN TAKING CARE OF HIM THE WHOLE TIME,” SWIFT SAID. “BUT THEY WOULDN’T DO THAT SHIT.”

A $5,000 reward is being offered for any information leading to the whereabouts of Larry Burton. They are planning another large search party this Saturday.
