Fayetteville Woman Charged With 3 Counts of Involuntary Manslaughter After Street Racing Crash Kills 3 E.E. Smith Students

Dymond Monroe charged after deadly Rosehill Road racing crash that killed 3 E.E. Smith High School students.

A 21-year-old Fayetteville woman has been charged after a street racing crash left three teenage football players dead earlier this month.

According to the Fayetteville Police Department, Dymond Nekiya Monroe was driving a 2024 Honda Civic on October 8, 2025, when she allegedly engaged in a high-speed street race with her sister, Destini Rhinada Genwright, who was behind the wheel of a Dodge Charger.

Investigators say Monroe lost control of her vehicle on Rosehill Road, crashing into a telephone pole and then a tree. The impact was catastrophic — killing three E. E. Smith High School football players on the scene:

• 17-year-old Trevor Merritt
• 18-year-old Jai-Hyon Elliott
• 17-year-old Nick Williams

Monroe survived the crash.

As The North Carolina Beat previously reported, Monroe had received a speeding ticket just two months before the fatal wreck — on August 2, 2025 — on the very same stretch of Rosehill Road.

Court records show she was clocked at 51 mph in a 35 mph.

Police have charged Monroe with:

• 3 counts of involuntary manslaughter (one for each victim)

• Willful speed competition (racing)

• Speeding

• Careless and reckless driving

• Insurance violation

Her sister, Destini Genwright, is also facing charges for willful speed competition, reckless driving, speeding, and insurance violations.

Authorities say she has not yet turned herself in.

City officials say they are reviewing Rosehill Road for possible safety improvements, though police emphasize that driver behavior was the key factor in this crash.
