Fayetteville Driver Dymond Monroe Had Speeding Ticket on Same Road Where 3 E.E. Smith Football Players Died

Fayetteville woman Dymond Monroe had a pending speeding ticket on Rose Hill Road—the same road where three E.E. Smith High School students were killed in a tragic car crash.

A 21-year-old Fayetteville woman, Dymond Monroe, who was behind the wheel during the devastating crash that killed three E.E. Smith High School football players,  had a pending speeding ticket from just two months earlier—on the same road where the deadly wreck occurred.

According to public records, Monroe was cited by Fayetteville Police on August 2, 2025, for allegedly speeding 51 mph in a 35 mph zone while it was raining in the area of 4823 Rose Hill Road.

Trevor Merritt, 17, Jai’Hyon Elliott, 18, and Nicholas Kole Williams, 17, lost their lives on October 8, 2025, on the same road—just three miles from where Monroe had previously received a speeding ticket.

Monroe, an Army veteran, miraculously survived the wreck but was critically injured and airlifted to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Authorities said the crash occurred when Monroe, driving a gray 2024 Honda Civic, with three high school football players  inside, struck a telephone pole on Rose Hill Road, in front of Haymount Presbyterian Church.

Monroe served on active duty in the U.S. Army from June 2023 to January 2025 as a Signal Operations Support Specialist stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas. She was discharged as a Private First Class (PFC) , according to information obtained by the Fayetteville Observer.

Court records reveal Monroe was scheduled to appear in court on September 19, 2025, for her August speeding ticket but failed to appear. The case was rescheduled for October 9, 2025—just one day after the fatal crash. She was still hospitalized at that time.

That wasn’t Monroe’s first citation this year. Records also show she was cited by Fayetteville Police on June 12, 2025, for driving with an expired registration plate.

The citation stated Monroe “operate[d] a motor vehicle on a street or highway while displaying an expired registration plate on the vehicle knowing the same to be expired.”

She missed two court appearances for that case as well—July 25 and August 21, 2025—both before the fatal incident.

The Fayetteville Police Department confirmed that the crash remains under investigation.

Officials have not said whether Monroe will face charges related to the deaths of the three E.E. Smith High School students.

This tragic crash has left the Fayetteville community and E.E. Smith High School mourning the loss of three promising young men whose futures were cut short.
