Police say a former employee broke into a Kinston Little Caesars twice — once to make and sell pizzas for cash — before the second attempt ended in a fight, arrest, and a $50,000 bond.
KINSTON, NC — A former employee of Little Caesars has been charged after police say he broke into the Vernon Avenue location — not to steal equipment or cash — but to make pizzas and sell them himself.
According to Kinston Police Department, officers were called to the Little Caesars on Sunday after reports of a break-in. Investigators say 41-year-old Jonathan Hackett, who once worked at the restaurant, allegedly broke into the business twice.
Police say during the first break-in, Hackett entered the store, made pizzas, sold them to customers, and kept the money. Warrants allege he sold ten pizzas and pocketed $50.
The second time around didn’t end so quietly for Hackett.
Authorities say when Hackett tried to get back into the restaurant, employees attempted to stop him. That confrontation reportedly turned physical, resulting in injuries. Hackett was taken to UNC Lenoir Health Care for treatment.
After receiving medical care, police arrested Hackett and transported him to the Lenoir County Jail.
Hackett is now facing multiple charges, including breaking and/or entering, obtaining property by false pretenses, and larceny after breaking and entering. Police also charged him with violating the city’s curfew, which was in effect during the weekend winter storm.
His bond has been set at $50,000.
