A man who may spend the rest of his life behind bars or possibly face the death sentence appeared in court Thursday for his first court appearance and told the courts that he was innocent.

28-year-old Michael Legage Miller, Jr. is charged with killing Destiny Denise Greene, her unborn child, and William Lenwood Coley, III.

Miller was arrested early Thursday morning in Jacksonville and appeared in court shortly after in Pender County.

Local reports say Miller was sobbing and shaking throughout his appearance and got upset when the judge read him the charges he is facing.

During the moment the judge gave Miller his next scheduled court date, he started crying out, “I’m innocent, I’m innocent.”

On November 8, 2020, deputies received an emergency medical call around 4:30 p.m. in the 400 block of John Pickett Road. When deputies arrived, Destiny Denise Greene, who was 7-months pregnant, and 26-year-old William Lenwood Coley III, was found shot dead.
