NC Mom Says Her Son Was “Jumped for No Reason”

ANGIER, NORTH CAROLINA The North Carolina Beat has received more information from the mother of a young teen who was brutally jumped by a group of boys this past weekend, and she believes the attack may have been part of a gang initiation.

The mother, Edwina Wallace, told us that the assault happened Saturday at the Angier Fair, with the incident connecting back to Jack Marley Park.

Wallace posted a disturbing video online Wednesday showing seven Hispanic boys and one Black boy repeatedly punching, kicking, and stomping her son before running off.

Mother Says the Boys Targeted Her Son at the Park Before Attacking Him

Wallace said her son, stepdaughter, and two friends were simply sitting on a bench at the park when a group of boys kept staring at them.

Her son didn’t think anything of it.

“The next thing he knew, the boys walked over to the table after it started getting dark and one of the boys said, ‘You touched my girl butt,’” Wallace told The North Carolina Beat.

Her son told the boy he didn’t even know who his girlfriend was. The boys didn’t care.

That’s when they jumped him.

Mother Believes It Was a Gang Initiation

Wallace told The North Carolina Beat that she believes the assault wasn’t about a girl at all — but could have been a gang initiation.

“I think they were initiating one of the boys,” she said.
“One of the boys said he didn’t even want to fight but they made him do it.”

She added that students at the school have been talking about the attack, bragging, and saying they did it “just because.”

The video Wallace posted shows her son on the ground being viciously beaten by the group — even after he’s defenseless.

The North Carolina Beat has reached out to law enforcement for comment.
