The North Carolina Beat contacted The North Carolina Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners Thursday to find out when the barbershops and beauty salons will be back open.
The board told us that unless Governor Roy Cooper extends the stay-at-home order, salons and barbershops will be able to open for business May 1.
On March 25, Governor Cooper ordered that all hair salons and barbershops suspend service.
At the time, owners said they received an email from the board about the decision.
The North Carolina Board of Cosmetic Arts Examiners statute prevents hairstylists and barbers from doing hair anywhere but a licensed shop. Cutting hair at home would be against the statute and the new executive order from Cooper. But come May 1, they will be allowed to open if the Governor’s order is not extended.
