Word on the the curb is that Oak City Fish & Chips, a seafood joint hailing from Raleigh, is feeling the heat after getting roasted for their so-called “infamousAlaskan Crab Pops, which they’re peddling at the North Carolina State Fair for a jaw-dropping $67.

Now, it’s a bit of a mystery of what went through their minds to slap 8 or 9 clumpy bits of Alaskan crab meat onto a stick and dub it a pop,” and charge $67 for it. That’s a whole different ball game it seems. I mean, I could see paying that much for a full cluster, because it is “Alaskan” but a stick with some crab meat and a lemon on top? Nah! For that price, you could throw a seafood boil that would feed a whole family, if not more.

On Sunday, it seemed like the backlash was too much for Oak City Fish & Chips to handle, so they took to Facebook to defend themselves and throw a little shade while flaunting their crab with its two tiny legs and one big plump leg.

But their attempt at damage control didnt quite hit the mark. Some folks came to their defense, telling the naysayers to either “buy it or dont,” and we laughed.

“There seems to be some confusion about Alaskan King Crab,” oAK city fish & Chips in a Facebook post. “We went to the store where you guys told us that you were buying it for $2 a pound and the tiny ones were labeled as King Crab. No Alaskan in front of it.”

They wrapped up their post with a cheeky image, declaring,“Oak City did that, so hopefully you won’t have to go through that. That’s no Alaskan King Crab; this is Alaskan King Crab.”
