Judge denies bond at first court appearance for Richlands shooting suspect; next hearing set for January 12
ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. — Court records provide little details in Onslow County shooting that left two people injured Sunday afternoon, including the identities of the victims and the formal charges filed against the suspect.
According to arrest warrants reviewed by The North Carolina Beat, 44-year-old Craig North, of Richlands, has been charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury (AWDWIKISI).
The warrants allege that North used a long gun firearm, described as a deadly weapon, and acted with the intent to kill while inflicting serious injury on two individuals.
Court documents identify the victims as Matthew Taylor and Samuel Craig North, as listed in the warrants.
During North’s first court appearance Monday morning, December 29, 2025, a judge denied his bond, meaning he will remain in custody.
Court records show his next court date is scheduled for January 12, 2026.
The charges stem from a shooting reported near Luther Banks Road and Gregory Fork Road in Richlands.
Deputies with the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, and multiple agencies assisted in the investigation, including the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, North Carolina State Highway Patrol, and the Duplin County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities previously confirmed that both victims were shot and transported to Greenville for medical treatment. Their conditions have not been released.
North was taken into custody following a multi-agency response.
He remains in the Onslow County Jail with no bond.
