A disturbing video in North Carolina, shows a Wilmington elderly man in diaper wandering outside as a bystander confronts a woman believed to be his caregiver.
Update (April 8, 2026): The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office (NHCSO) has confirmed it is actively investigating the viral video showing the alleged mistreatment of an elderly man in Wilmington.
On Monday, a deputy was seen leaving a home in the 7400 block of Ern Way, the address believed to belong to the woman recorded in the video.
The Sheriff’s Office has not released additional details about the investigation or whether any charges are pending.
Authorities continue to look into the allegations following the disturbing footage that has drawn widespread community outrage.
WILMINGTON, N.C. — A disturbing video out of Wilmington is making rounds online after a local man captured what appears to be an elderly neighbor wandering outside in nothing but a diaper.
The now-viral clip was posted Friday by Jonathan Maurice Pigford, who says he witnessed the situation. According to Pigford, this isn’t the first time he’s seen the elderly man outside in vulnerable conditions.
In the caption of the video, Pigford didn’t hold back, writing:
“Had to flip on my crazy neighbor again. She makes this man walk around like this in the winter too. Fkn ridiculous. Authorities are involved. I’ll update later.”
WHAT THE VIDEO SHOWS
In the footage, the elderly man is seen walking through a yard wearing only a diaper, appearing disoriented. Pigford approaches him calmly, asking if he’s okay and where his caregiver is.

The man responds that he’s okay but seems unsure of his surroundings. Pigford then attempts to guide him back home, reassuring him along the way.
A woman — believed to be the man’s caregiver — confronts Pigford and insists the elderly man should “go back the way he came.” When Pigford questions why, she allegedly responds that it’s meant to “teach him.”
Pigford pushes back hard, accusing the woman of neglect and exploitation, at one point saying she’s “using him for a check” and threatening to call police as the man stood there visibly wet and exposed.
Pigford claims authorities have already been contacted.
