Winston-Salem, N.C — Brittany Deshay Grace, the sister of Quiet Corner sports bar owner Edward Fulks, was released from the Forsyth County Jail on a $150,000 secured bond shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday following her first court appearance in the fatal shooting of 34-year-old Calvin Samuel Johnson.
Grace, 37, was charged with felony voluntary manslaughter in the death of Johnson, who was shot around 4:18 a.m. on Sunday, April 12, 2026, right outside the Quiet Corner sports bar in the 2800 block of Indiana Avenue (2805 Indiana Ave.).
Winston-Salem Police responded to the scene and found Johnson suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police confirmed that Grace turned herself in to authorities and has been cooperating with law enforcement. She was initially held without bond after her arrest on Tuesday but, during her Wednesday morning court appearance, a judge set the $150,000 bond.
As a condition of her release, Grace has been banned from the Quiet Corner sports bar.
Court documents allege that Grace “unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously did kill and slay Calvin Johnson.”
Police have not yet released a detailed account of what led to the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Bar Owner Issues Statement
On Monday, bar owner Edward Fulks posted a public apology on social media:
“My heart is heavy as I write this. I want to express my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones… This is something I never wanted to happen, and I am truly sorry for the pain and loss you are experiencing.”
Fulks also warned against “false narratives and misinformation” and called for unity in the Winston-Salem community. The statement was met with significant criticism, with many residents calling it a BS apology.
The investigation remains ongoing.
